We go through life strategizing
On how to build a life of perfection
We make plans; we set a course
We allow no room for failure or rejection
But life has a quirky sense of humor
Its own plans it likes to put into place
With one quick swoop, our own plans may be discarded
And a new set of rules we are forced to embrace
We can close our eyes and cower in the corner
And proclaim that life is too hard and unfair
Or we can examine our options and reassess our goals
And climb our way out of disappointment and despair
No one said that we get only one chance
To succeed at what we want to do
New visions and dreams we can create each day
