In the last week or so, I have seen several articles about Tiger Woods’ entrance into a sex rehab program in Mississippi. My first surprise is that somewhere in Mississippi there is a well-renowned sex rehab program. Sex rehab just does not sound like it belongs in the middle of the Bible Belt. It just seems like it should be a California or New York thing.

Sex rehab location aside, I need to ask. When did blatant and habitual adultery become a disease?  This behavior used to be greeted with a sound judgmental “Tsk, Tsk, Tsk.”  Now, it’s met with “Aww, poor guy, he has a disease. He has had sex with so many women, he has lost count.  Someone give him a hug.”

Before all the bleeding hearts start yelling at me over my insensitivity to sexual addiction, ask yourselves this:  If Tiger wasn’t worth $3 billion or whatever he has in his bank account, or if he was not so famous, would all those women have lined up to be part of his little addictive circle?  I don’t think so.  If he didn’t have the money and fame, he might have been a simple cheater living in a seedy motel after his wife threw him out and not a dethroned celebrity working on his bachelors of sex addiction degree at some posh private facility.  I guess I should be fair to Tiger.  He was not the only celebrity caught in a scandal this year. There were a string of famous fellows caught cheating on their wives, and while some claimed sexual addiction, others took the traditional road and lied until videos of their escapades showed up on You Tube or E!

My question about sexual addiction is this? How do you rehab for it?  AA teaches alcoholics  how not to take a drink everyday, and drug rehabs teach drug addicts that they can get through your life without that artificial high. The gambling-challenged never set foot in racetracks or casinos. So, what do sex addicts do?  Do sex addicts never have sex again? Do you go from having sex with anything that moves to being celibate?  Do sex addicts go around celebrating the anniversary date that they went sex free?   I would think that can’t be healthy. Wouldn’t going cold turkey make these people explode?

Here’s another question:  Can people have a monogamous sexual addiction? Can they just want sex all the time with their spouses?  Frankly,  I think my husband might not complain if I announced I was a monogamous sex addict.  I don’t think he would send me to rehab. In fact, I think I might get a lot of jewelry.

I apologize for rambling, but these are the sick things that I and a lot of other people sometimes ponder.  When it comes down to it, I do have pity for Tiger Woods although I am pretty sick of hearing about him and his malady.  No matter what his ailment, it’s not going deliver him from the divorce settlement of all divorce settlements.  But maybe there is a rehab for that too.
