Out of wood, my husband carved
A sign of my favorite expression
“Because kindness matters” hangs in my kitchen
A reminder that love is our greatest possession
Some say kindness no longer exists
When it happens, it is front page news
But kindness should be the core of humanity
Not a contrived message of political or religious views
We have forgotten the gift of kindness
We have trampled it and left it dying alone
We have made it so kindness has no value
We replaced it with let’s “take care of our own”
Kindness needs to be resurrected
It needs to be a part of what we do and say
Not just an occasional thought or action
That gives us a warm, fuzzy feeling in the midst of our day
Once we get kindness into our lives
Our world slowly transforms
Kindness allows us to see beyond our needs
And it gives us shelter from our own storms
