We want to be what others want us to be
To fit in; we want so much to belong
But the square peg in the circle at times we become
Why do we see it as a weakness and not a chance to grow strong?
We worry that acceptance is not ours to behold
We obsess that rejection will be our fate
For some unexplained reason, we see conformity
As a place where happiness and success await
Yes, acceptance is a comfort zone
It can be easy to spout off the popular views
We can justify sacrificing who we truly are
For the opportunity to walk in familiar shoes
Acceptance is a double-edged sword
It makes us part of something, but we have to know the cost
If to be accepted means to abandon our own ideals
Then in acceptance our heart becomes damaged or lost
