I think the world would be kinder place
If each of us could decide to open our mind
To see the other side of the picture
To choose not to go through life half-blind
Maybe if we took off our coat of judgment
Maybe if we gave those we reject a second chance
We might find a rose hidden among the weeds
A heart that inspires us to love, laugh and dance
Sometimes we will never find a connection
There are some people with whom we cannot share a dream
We disagree on the most fundamental issues
Our points of view are on opposite extremes
But that is not an excuse to shut the window
To block out opinions and possibility of change
Our hearts grow each hour and day that we breathe
We will embrace ideas we once thought strange
The world would be kinder if we let down our guard
To listen to others; what would be the cost?
Thoughts once repugnant might ring true in our hearts
And bring us a peace that we gave up as lost
