Don’t get your hopes up!
An old saying that echoes in our ears
It is uttered as a warning to protect our hearts
But instead it kills our spirit and enflames our fears
Why not get our hopes up?
What is wrong with shooting for the moon?
Why do we want to knock down our expectations?
Why do we want to prepare ourselves for ruin?
We should live our lives with the highest of hopes
We should meet each day with anticipation
We should believe that something wonderful is about to happen
We should never drag our feet in worry or hesitation
Life is about great expectations
It is a gift we need to embrace and share
If we keep our hopes down to spare our feelings
We lose our joy and welcome despair
Do not give into the notion
That high hopes can bring only pain
It is the fear of living that destroys our souls
And turns our days of promising sunshine into days of coldness and rain
